Ovation Systems wins UK Home Office Award for Afterburner

Afterburner the only hard-disk time-lapse DVD recorder on the market was awarded second prize in the new Equipment and Technology Awards (ETIA) 2006 which recognises innovation in the public security field.

The Association of Police and Public Security Suppliers ran this new competition in conjunction with the Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB).

Designed in consultation with the National Crime Squad the Afterburner was tailor-made for use by law enforcers for video evidence gathering. It has now become so popular that 80 per cent of UK police forces are using it as well as law enforcement organisations in North America, Europe and Australia.

David Phipps the technical support manager from the NCS National Technical Support Unit said it was important that any technology should be ‘robust evidentially’, easy to use and require minimal training.

The way in which the NCS and Ovation Systems worked together to develop the project won it recognition in the awards. The award was presented to Mr Phipps and Gordon Moore, UK Sales Manager for Ovation Systems at the annual HOSDB exhibition at RAF Halton this Month.

Gordon Moore said: “Both ourselves and the NCS were delighted to be recognised for the innovative way we approached this project. We hope it heralds the start of a new level of co-operation between the police and private companies, which can only seek to raise standards in the future.”
